  Knaap Webinar on the Purple Line Corridor Coalition. The Purple Line is a proposed 16-mile light rail line extending from Bethesda in Montgomery County (MD) to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County (MD). In this October 30, 2013 webinar, NCSG executive director Gerrit Knaap introduced the recently organized Purple Line Corridor Coalition, formed to maximize the economic, social, and environmental benefits of this significant investment. More specifically, Knaap described why maximizing the benefits of light rail investments requires a corridor wide approach, drawing insights from experiences in Denver, Seattle, and Minneapolis-St. Paul.   The NCSG Launches Purple Line Corridor Coalition. Maryland Transit Authority is poised to break ground on its new “Purple Line” within the next two years, inspiring government and nonprofit leaders from communities spanning the line to jump on preparations in advance of the new transit corridor. But research shows the best ways for communities to reap the benefits of new transit while protecting their interests is to coordinate their efforts corridor-wide.   The Purple Line Coalition in Suburban Maryland: Why TOD is Not Enough. The NCSG’s Gerrit Knaap spoke on Tuesday, June 25 at "Tuesdays at APA-DC." He discussed the recently formed Purple Line Corridor Coalition and its efforts to stimulate sustainable and equitable economic development throughout the corridor without displacing affordable housing or small businesses.
